This has truly been an interesting weekend. It has actually been an interesting month. So far. Keeping the household going as well as the writing and myself has proven to be…difficult. You all know about how the stomach flu knocked me down recently – I lost 8 pounds in one day! Now I am over that and look around me and see so much out-of-order I want to throw up my hands and close my eyes: Maybe if I don’t look at it and pretend it isn’t there, when I open my eyes everything will magically be where it is supposed to be and there will be forward momentum in getting the rest of what needs done accomplished.
*sigh* Closing my eyes and pretending, nay wishing, didn’t do anything. *sigh*
I am just going to have to work on getting everything in order. Bummer.
Having the kind of weekend this past one was helped a lot in getting my head back into the game of doing things and not giving in to feeling bad and going to sleep – even when there was a migraine involved. Things were accomplished, fun things, like going to the movies twice! Seeing a movie almost always perks me up and helps me settle.
Carlos and I saw Star Trek: Into Darkness and Ironman 3. Of the two, Star Trek: Into Darkness blew me away! It was a perfect mixture of the old and new Star Trek. The mesh of the stories was wonderful and opened a very broad door for more movies if not an entire new television series, because, let’s face it, this franchise has no end in sight! Thank goodness! Ironman 3 was not bad by any means – it just wasn’t as good as the Trek movie. Plus, Robert Downey, Jr. is a lure in and of himself!
I think what I liked most about the Trek movie is that the story flowed smoothly and the actors were claiming their characters, not just playing homage to the original cast – although homage should come in each movie in some way – which was wonderful to see. Zachary Quinto, obviously, can never replace Leonard Nimoy as Spock, but he has taken hold of the character and played it differently enough you can see aspects of the original Spock, and the meshing of Quinto’s Spock. It is also refreshing to see Leonard Nimoy in the movies, because he helped to make the original Star Trek series what it was and is today.
Just as in the original series, Star Trek: Into Darkness had hope all throughout the movie and by the time I left the theater I was hopeful myself, just as I feel when I watch even the re-runs of the original show. Hope, especially in movies, is very hard to see sometimes.
Part of the reason I did not like Ironman 3 as much is because of the reference to terrorism. Terrorism happens enough in real life – I don’t go to movies in order to see terrorists or terrorist leaders being, well, terrorists. Although it would be nice to believe, think many of the terrorist leaders are hired actors playing a part; however, this isn’t the case. I couldn’t escape into the story as easily or suspend belief as easily because of this issue I believe.
Anyway, after seeing the movies and getting out, story ideas started flowing, as well as ideas for meals to cook. Suddenly, the blinders and bindings I had been experiencing for these past few weeks – wow, weeks – were removed and I actually took a deep breath creatively. It was magnificent! It almost felt as if puzzle pieces that had not been firmly placed into the pattern of the puzzle did just that. There are other things in my life out-of-whack, of course, but the bigger things are closer to being happily in place.
“A Story of Emily Post” has a new section that should go up by the end of this week at the latest, and there is an idea for a short story. I don’t want to jinx it by putting down the working title, but I’ll let you know as soon as I can.
The novella, “A Story of Emily Post”, is actually being looked at by a publishing company! Again, I can’t say anything else until we know what is going to happen. This is one reason why I want to get down another section of the story, because I may not be able to put down any more sections because it will be in the process of being published. If this whole thing falls through, you will be able to read the rest of the story here on The News. Either way, work will continue on “A Story of Emily Post” and you all will be able to read it one way or another.
On the home front, yours truly is fixing her first meal in almost a year because a) I want to cook something, and b) it would be really good to give the hubs a break. He is such a sweetheart and such a good guy, cooking for him is a pleasure, especially since Carlos has had to do most of the cooking for this past year. Part of me is a little concerned about cooking since it has been so long since rattling the old pots and pans, though, while another part of me is excitedly jumping up and down – on the inside, of course.
The organization of the house is happening, just slowly. I am taking room at a time and going through magazines like Real Simple and other like-minded publications and putting their ideas to use. They work for the most part, but since I am in a wheelchair, I have to change a few things here and there, but not enough that you could say I am changing the instructions or directions. Height in a wheelchair is different, as is reaching distance, etc.
Well, that’s enough for me today. Hopefully I’ll see you guys tomorrow!
