The Husband and I live in an apartment as you well know. The previous upstairs neighbors have departed somewhere else and new neighbors are upstairs. I know nothing of these people as they keep pretty close to themselves. The one thing I do know is that they keep one of the cutest little girls, a toddler, and all she does through much of the day, and into the night sometimes, is to run from one room to the other playing.
This little girl does not run quietly. Oh no. She runs with gusto and vim. Although this little cutie could weigh no more than 25 pounds soaking wet, her footfalls are massively heavy and sturdy. When her brothers, who go to school, are around it sounds as if a herd of cattle, or water buffalo have been let lose in the apartment upstairs. Sometimes their laughter and giggles filter down, but only when they exceed any sort of rational volume I suspect.
At first the trampling and stomping of people upstairs was very annoying. Since these children have moved in I notice only when things go quiet for any length of time. I am very aware when there happens to be quiet upstairs, even Willie Fu who lets me know when a fly buzzes too close to me, looks up at me questioningly when there isn’t one sound coming from upstairs.
A friend of mine said once, when they were here, “I don’t see how you stand all of that noise.” I, of course, said it didn’t bother me – and it doesn’t. Now. In fact, I find the noise of such happy life good. These children can run and play and be happy with people who obviously love them – I believe it is an aunt and a grandmother who look after them – and there isn’t any pain, at least that I can tell, from the activity of what goes on above me.
The adults upstairs walk heavily as well, but they do not stomp, and I am thankful.
In other news, I am actually feeling better since going to the doctor because there are antibiotics prescribed and in the process of being taken. I am feeling well enough today to actually pick up my pen and putting it to paper, as well as turn to the keyboard.
Currently there is a short story coming out via dip pen and ink. Its first draft length, so far, is 34 ½ written pages. I am curious to see what the final word count for this piece will be.
There have been spreadsheets made for keeping track of words and submissions already today as well. Productivity after feeling like road kill is wonderful!
