The past week was Bright Week for us in the Eastern Orthodox tradition.  A time of joy and celebration of the Risen Christ.  I didn’t get to make it to Bright Sunday because 9780316206853_p0_v5_s260x420of pain:  I just wasn’t sure I could get in the van to go.  At the same time, though, I had a wonderful Sunday by playing Skyrim and playing with the dogs.  Sometimes I wonder if the dogs are truly spoiled or if they have me spoiled.

Today is Monday.  It is raining.  Temps have dropped.  The pressure has changed.  The pain has increased again, but it still isn’t as bad as it has been because I can type today, which means I can write!

Looking for something positive in the not-so-good days can sometimes be difficult, but not today.  Today I am eager to write and have a good hot cup of tea with a lemon Oreo or two while reading an excellent book:  The Cuckoo’s Calling.

You remember The Cuckoo’s Calling – it is the book J.K. Rowling wrote under the pseudonym of “Robert Galbraith”?  I am reading it on Kindle and I must admit I am super-into it!  The action is wonderful and the characters of Cormoran Strike and his secretary, Robin are people you can get behind.  Strike is the sort of private detective you love, reminiscent of Humphrey Bogart’s hard-boiled detectives, with a wonderful heart of gold he tries to keep hidden.  Robin is the bright-eyed girl who has always wanted to be a detective, or work for a detective, even though her fiance’ understands this not at all.

Rowling/Galbraith has brought to life a different London, England from Harry Potter.  The current London, with all of its beauty and charm, as well as the not-so-great parts.  The mystery is unfolding carefully, but actively.  According to my Kindle, I am 47% through.  When I finally finish this book I am going to be chomping at the bit to read the next one.

Yes, the next one!  Cormoran Strike is a series!  It is an adult series.  Even though I have the first book on Kindle, there is a good chance I will buy a hardback copy of the book, and then purchase the next one for the Kindle and then, when the price decreases a little, the hardback of the second book.  This is a series that deserves to be kept for future readers in the best format possible.
