Sunday after and Sunday night there was another winter storm for Kentucky and Lexington. There is about 4 inches of snow and underneath this is a nice coating of ice. As the saying goes, “March has come in like a lion” hopefully it will “go out like a lamb.”
Despite the cold, snow, and ice, I am actually feeling good. Isn’t that a big change from the previous reports? Could it be possible Spring is not too far away? My body hurts with the fronts and weather changes, true, but once they settle I am good. Feeling this good is a blessing and a respite I so needed. I am putting it to good use, too: I have had a wonderful, relaxing shower, a nap to recoup energy, and now am beginning the writing day. Yes, it is a little late in the day, but any writing that gets done is great. Getting closer to completed projects is always productive.
The re-write of WHRT is top of the list, of course. The ghost story also needs a few more words added to it, as well as some typing to put it into the proper format for submission, and to get rid of plot mistakes and mistakes in general.
If I am not mistaken, the research for another writing project is almost done. New writing projects are always fantastic and fill each writer with enthusiasm. It is later on in the writing and creative process things can sometimes lag. Sometimes you can love a story idea but it simply doesn’t work. This means you have to stop, or finish for your own amusement. This happened to me with the werewolf story I put so much time in on. When it was rejected I was so surprised, and almost angry because a) it is a good story; b) the characters seemed so exciting and life-like (to me); and c) it really was written as good as I could. The problem with it, according to the editor who gave me the rejection, is that there is nothing genuinely exciting going on in it and the actors in said action are overly-predictable. After letting it sit for a few weeks and re-reading it, I can agree with the rejection, but, at the time, I was so upset because I loved writing it so very much.
It won’t take too much to correct the problems in the story, but now I am not sure I am going to work on it or just start over. I enjoy the premise of the piece. No one else has written anything quite like it, yet; but, it needs a complete over-haul before it can be submitted again. This was a very difficult lesson to accept, yet a very important one. As long as I can learn from my mistakes I can take rejections.
In other non-writing news, The Husband and I watched a very good movie last night: Confucius. It stars Chow Yun Fat as Confucius. The movie is a drama of the life of the great philosopher. A lot of detail was given to the movie and it follows the events, from what I have read, of the Chinese philosopher’s life. It was thought provoking and filled with lots of action because, much to my surprise, Confucius was a tactical genius and was taught by Laozi. The scenery was beautiful and the costumes were very detailed. Confucius is an excellent movie. Along with all the reasons listed to see the movie, while looking up some information for links, I discovered Chow Yun Fat resembles Confucius – to me. What do you think?
